                                                                  Global Economy

This course is divided into two sections. Section 1 will give an overview of the global economy evolution throughout the past five centuries. This section will discuss the emergence of the “New World Economy” and examine the integration of product, labor and capital markets. Section 2, using micro and macroeconomic analysis tools, will look at the catalysts for and obstructers of market integration and the impact of globalization on the economy and welfare of nations. Topics discussed will include: the role of international institutions such as the IMF and WTO, the impact of changing economic environments on competitive strategy, the emerging trade blocs (European Union, NAFTA), the fluctuation of exchange rates and the emergence of new markets. Cross-listed to Global Studies.

Prerequisite: Intro to Economics or equivalent (Macro/Micro)

Classes are scheduled Monday to Friday

Travel during class time is strictly prohibited.



Location: Florence, Italy

Dates: June 4- June 25, 2011  (Program dates are NY departure and return dates.)

CUNY tuition (for in-state, matriculated undergraduates): $615

Airfare: $1000 (estimate)

Additional costs

Minimum budget for meals and personal expenses of $15 to $20 per day 
(approximately $420 to $560)

Programs are open to all undergraduate students from all CUNY campuses (unless restricted by level of study, language fluency, or other program criteria). Travel on Fridays and some Saturdays for some programs.
