Oman: Arabic Language Immersion in Muscat (ALIM)


Study Arabic in Oman, the jewel of the Middle East. Our Arabic language pro- 

grams are internationally-recognized for their superior quality, and our approach 

is to enable young people to better understand the Gulf region through Arabic 

language and culture. We bring together emerging young leaders to engage in 

joint learning and inquiry, cultural exchange, and deeper understanding of com- 

mon interests and shared aspirations. Classes are intensive and small. 

Classes are scheduled Monday to Friday

Travel during class time is strictly prohibited.

Location: Muscat, Oman

Dates:  June 10- July 21, 2011 

Courses included:  Intermediate Arabic (two years of university Arabic or the equivalent)

Schedule: Four hours daily, five days a week (three hours of classroom instruction and one hour in conversation with a peer facilitator)

Faculty: Native Omani Arabic speakers, with formal AFL training and experience teaching foreign university students and other international audiences

Housing: Homestay (includes breakfast and dinner daily)

Program Costs

Cost: $3946

Housing, Arabic Language program, Airport pick-up from Muscat International Airport, Renewable visa, lunch during the week (Omani, Turkish, Pakistani, and Lebanese food), Cultural events (lectures and films) and Transportation between homestay and World Learning Oman Center

Travel insurance: $40

Additional costs, not included in above cost:

Airfare to/from Muscat

Arrival visa (20 OMR) at Muscat Airport

Textbook: Al Kitaab fii Taalum Al-Arabiya II (available for purchase)

Weekend excursions to interior villages and wadis (optional)

Programs are open to all undergraduate students from all CUNY campuses (unless restricted by level of study, language fluency, or other program criteria). Travel on Fridays and some Saturdays for some programs.
