DANIEL ZAHAROPOL DELIVERS THE KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT THE SIXTEENTH
ANNUAL TIME 2000 CONFERENCE

On Friday, 3 November, 2017, TIME 2000 hosted its sixteenth annual conference, Celebrating Mathematics Teaching. More than 400 high school students from 28 schools in the New York- Metropolitan region attended with 33 of their teachers. Also in attendance were 75 undergraduates, preservice teachers, and college faculty members. The opening session featured Daniel Zaharopol, Director of the Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) and Executive Director of the Art of Problem Solving Foundation. His dynamic presentation, “Prove Yourself Wrong,” set the tone for an outstanding conference. Exemplary mathematics teachers made exciting presentations that involved the conference participants in mathematical investigations and explorations. Sixty TIME 2000 undergraduates volunteered to prepare for and assist at the conference. Six TIME 2000 graduates returned to be on the program and one participated in a panel discussion conducted by TIME 2000 senior, Antoinette Koskinas. A Texas Instrument handheld device and TIME 2000 gifts were raffled at the luncheon. Many thanks to Mathematics for America (MfA) for generously funding the conference.
