​Queens College is one of the senior colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Often referred to as "the jewel of the CUNY system,” Queens College is located in the heart of Queens, at the crossroads of public higher education and the New York City workforce. Queens College graduates the most teachers, counselors, and principals in the New York metropolitan area, has more computer science majors than any New York City college, has the third largest business and accounting program of any school in New York State, and has renowned programs in the fine and performing arts, humanities, social sciences, and STEM.
The Elementary and Early Childhood Education Department at Queens College invites applications for an Assistant Professor vacancy in Literacy. The Birth-6 Literacy Program in the Elementary and Early Childhood Education Department (http://www.qc.cuny.edu/academics/degrees/education/elementary/Pages/default.aspx) seeks to hire a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor to teach master-level literacy courses and serve as Practicum Coordinator starting August 2018. We have a particular interest in scholars who specialize in or have a research agenda in literacy assessment and instruction or teacher literacy education.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting and continuing research that is currently ongoing in the B-6 Literacy Program
- Leading and supporting program development
- Contributing and supporting school-university partnerships for the literacy practicum
- Collaborating with or mentoring other faculty in the B-6 Literacy Program
- Advising students in the B-6 Literacy Program 
- Acting as a liaison with families whose children attend the literacy practicum

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

​Required: Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
(1) Ph.D. or Ed.D. in an area related to language and literacy development and (2) eligibility for New York State certification as a literacy specialist or New York State certified as a literacy specialist.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

(1) Three or more years of professional experience in elementary school settings and (2) research and/or publications in the areas of language and literacy development and/or  B-6 literacy assessment.
