CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

​Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of the Office of Information Technology, the Director for Infrastructure and Operations, is responsible for managing four teams handling system architecture, planning, managing, administering and organizing network service management and business delivery for wired, wireless, LAN/WAN, Telecom, MDF/IDF, Cabling Services, cloud compute and storage services, and Data Center operations: servers, storage, projects, application support and computer-related operations, including departmental management activities. In consultation with the Assistant Vice President, the Director for Infrastructure and Operations will assume technical responsibility for IT security tools and compliance across the campus as a whole. He or she will set policies and procedures for carrying out solutions and assigned work.Typical duties, in conjunction with the CIO, include but are not limited to:
-    Oversee and manage the QC technology infrastructure groups and operations. Direct subordinates responsible for computer systems analysis, database management, systems programming and IT infrastructure operations and application support. Maintains responsibility for major systems technology.
-    Coordinate with all OIT directors and managers on the development of specific project plans and timelines; monitor and report on progress. Develop and build teams within and across groups.
-    Act as a technology architect to research and recommend technology infrastructure additions and improvements. Set standards and policies and make recommendations for the acquisition of new hardware, software and other solutions.
-    Manage OIT vendor relations and associated budgets in concert with the OIT Director of Budgets, Procurement Office and Budget office.
-    Work proactively and in close concert with CUNY and outside agencies to monitor, and assure IT security compliance and support solutions for business continuity, incident management, disaster planning and recovery.
-    Conduct periodic security attestations and reviews of OIT policies, procedures, operations and budgets in support of the achievement of the colleges strategic plan goals. Recommend continuous service improvements in all areas of operations.
-    Work closely with business partners to impact productivity and cost efficiencies through development and implementation of all technology solutions.
-    Partner with CUNY Central and other CUNY’s on projects and initiatives.
-    Meet and communicate each semester with faculty and staff on IT programs and projects.
-    Prepare analyses and reports, and make presentations to constituent groups and advisory committees.
-    Model effective working relationships between the business owners and OIT.
-    Investigate and resolve complex computing and user-specific problems as necessary.

GENERAL DUTIES


I.T. Computer Systems Managers manage and direct an Information Technology area at a College or University level. They set policies and procedures, direct technical staff, and maintain responsibility for administrative as well as technical issues within their assigned area(s) of responsibility. They may manage major and/or large, complex information systems activities and/or manage a unit or group.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


1. Six (6) years of progressively responsible full-time paid information systems technology experience, at least 18 months of which shall have been in an administrative or managerial capacity in the areas of computer applications programming, systems programming, information systems development, data telecommunications, data base administration or a closely related area. 
     
2. Education at an accredited College or University may be substituted for the general information systems technology experience at the rate of one year of college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 4 years of college for 2 years of experience. In addition a Master's degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for an additional year of the general information systems technology experience. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative or managerial experience described above. 
   
This title has multiple levels.  In addition to the minimum qualifications above, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

​-    Experience as an IT Systems Manager-    Progressively responsible experience in the management, development and implementation of computing systems and applications.
-    Knowledge of ITIL Foundation concepts inclusive of  Service Delivery. Experience working within the ITIL Framework for Incident, Problem, Change, and Service Request Management.
-    Life cycle knowledge of security, technology architecture, technology planning, procurement, project management and implementation knowledge.
-    Experience with agile development and delivery, database systems, project management software, ERP (PeopleSoft/People Tools) systems.
-    Strong knowledge and experience with CISCO technology
-    Certifications in project management, security and other relevant areas or equivalent experience.
-    Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills, effective planning and problem-solving abilities, and strong technical expertise.
-    The ability to work effectively with multiple constituencies to provide high quality services and establish consensus.

Certifications:
CCNP, CCNP-Wireless, CCIE –Data Center, CCNP- Security or equivalent experience.
