The Department of Media Studies at Queens College, City University of New York invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor, with a specialization in Television, Video and Film production, to join their Media Arts program, beginning August, 2018. The successful appointee will teach studio and field film and television production as well as related Media Arts courses within the Media Studies Department’s B.A. and M.A. programs. Responsibilities include teaching, research and mentoring undergraduate students in area(s) of expertise, service including responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions, and contribution to the overall mission of the Department of Media Studies. Candidate should be able to teach the technical fundamentals and creative aspects of introductory and intermediate narrative and documentary film, television and video production, including courses in directing, cinematography, sound design, studio production, and editing (including facility with Adobe Premiere). The successful appointee will be expected to maintain an active career of creative work that complements the department’s social justice mission.

M.F.A. in Film, Television or Media Production or a related discipline. Also required are the ability to teach successfully with two or more years teaching at the university level, evidence of scholarship, research or achievement, ability to perform administrative work and student advising. Distinguished track record of film, television, video and/or digital media production, as well as a thorough going knowledge of digital film and media theory and praxis; a vibrant and continuing artistic practice; evidence of teaching effectiveness and capacity for mentoring students; demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse student body.
Candidates should have experience in all phase aspects of film and digital video production. The Media Studies department’s facilities include a brand new, state of the art production studio, the department will prioritize candidates who possess extensive knowledge of studio environments and production techniques. Candidates should also demonstrate exceptional skills in the technical aspects of film, television and video production, such as cinematography, editing and sound.
