Athletic Facilities

Befitting the institution’s robust sport programs, Queens College has a full complement of modern and well maintained indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, suitable for all levels of play, recreational or competitive. Several indoor spaces offer weatherproof staging for a variety of activities—from martial arts to table tennis. All athletic facilities are located a short walk from QC’s multilevel parking lot.

FitzGerald Gym

QC’s FitzGerald Gym provides a variety of spaces for athletic events—from basketball to indoor soccer to badminton—and nonathletic events, like trade shows or conventions. Renters have access to the men’s and women’s locker rooms, which have showers, bathrooms, and personal storage spaces. Six vending machines offer beverages and snacks, and a concession stand and/or catering services can be arranged for larger events.

Gymnasium, 300 South

This 22,800-square-foot gymnasium has a high, arched 30-foot ceiling, wall-to-wall windows on three sides, and room for five full or 10 half-basketball courts. Two electronic scoreboards are on opposite ends of the full-court configuration. Nets and courts for volleyball and badminton are available, and the gym may also be used for indoor track events (requires north and south sides), soccer, martial arts, and batting cages, as well as exercise routines and large-scale nonathletic events. Telescoping wooden bleachers offer seating for 1,500 spectators; total capacity for the room is 1,500.

Pool

QC’s Olympic-sized swimming pool, housed in a 6,600-square-foot space, offers six lanes and starting blocks, depth sloping from four to 12 feet, and a one-meter-high springboard. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide ample natural light. The bleacher stand, seating 250, straddles the entrance to the men’s and women’s locker rooms. Two electronic scoreboards and one pace clock are available. The pool accommodates up to 100 swimmers, and is a great location for competitive events; swimming, scuba, or life-saving instruction; and children’s pool parties. Kickboards and lane dividers are provided, and QC lifeguards are available for hire.
