Lori Yamato

Lori Yamato earned her PhD in Comparative Literature from The Graduate Center. Her dissertation, The Temptation of Symmetry: Hamann, Herder, Kierkegaard, and Henry James, won the Doctoral Students Council Award for Interdisciplinary Studies. She received her BA from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at NYU, where she explored an interest in arts management as well as literature. She has also worked in classical music publishing, education, and administration.

She is particularly excited about overlaps and loopholes where literature, philosophy, and music mingle. She has published articles on the peculiar philosophers and literary critics J. G. Hamann and Søren Kierkegaard; her current large-scale project is a book in progress that explores varieties of discourse in Kierkegaard’s Fear and Trembling.

She teaches 100-level courses as well as upper-level courses on a variety of interdisciplinary topics and periods. She has taught courses on anonymity and pseudonymity; prefaces; music and literature; very short literature; unfinished literature; fairy tales; disability in literature; and thought experiments. She is also pleased to be a faculty member for the Inclusion Program at Queens College.
