Minority Affairs

Welcome to the Office of Minority Affairs

Under-represented minority students have a special resource at Queens College: an office that not only promotes your energy, determination, and success, but also addresses your aspirations, challenges, and issues. The Office of Minority Affairs and Pre-Professional Advisement connects African/black American, Latino Hispanic students, and others who identify as under-represented with QC’s wide range of resources. Our mission is to enable the college to attract, nurture, retain, and graduate an ethnically diverse student body and to encourage and assist students of color in preparing for careers and graduate/professional school.

Among our services are counseling (personal and academic), support groups for men and women, graduate school planning and application assistance, cultural and social events, coaching/mentoring, and advising for the health professions and law school—all in a friendly environment. If you are a minority student planning on attending medical school, dental school, another professional school/program, or graduate school, our pre-professional advisors can guide you in developing an educational plan to do well and complete coursework expeditiously. The emphasis here is on science, math, and computer science. Our staff also promote meaningful dialogues across ethnic cultural lines.

QC alumni are especially helpful as speakers and mentors, for they are devoted to “lifting as they climb.” They often become conduits to opportunities and programs beyond campus.
