Funding Opportunities
ORSP offers many resources for faculty looking for grant opportunities. Our office publishes a newsletter GAL (Grant Announcement Letter), which is sent to all departments and active research faculty. It contains timely grant funding activities and major research news. We subscribe to COS/Pivot, and Grant Forward, two of the best available databases of both public and private funding sources; and we send notices of new opportunities by email and/or interoffice mail.
Internal grant programs are another way to jumpstart a research project. CUNY offers several Internal Funding Programs, which are outlined on a page maintained by the vice chancellor for research. The PSC-CUNY Research Award Program also provides research funding to faculty.
There are a number of ways to keep abreast of new grant opportunities apart from our internal newsletter and announcements. We suggest that you utilize Grants.gov and each federal agency’s website for federal grants and take advantage of the search and save capabilities of the databases that we have available and described below.
PIVOT– Pivot combines a comprehensive, editorially maintained database of funding opportunities worth an estimated $44 billion with a unique database of 3 million prepopulated scholar profiles, drawing from Community of Scholars and Community of Science profiles. Faculty are encouraged to claim their profile and use this tool to automatically track available opportunities.
Grant Forward – this all-in-one funding database and researcher centered dissemination program to connect users to funding opportunities and collaborative opportunities. Researchers can look for upcoming opportunities, utilize AI search functions for more tailored results, get information on awarded projects, identify relevant sponsors, and find collaborators.
