Michael Lipsey, Professor, Percussion

Biographical Information:

Percussionist Michael Lipsey is a full professor in percussion and the head of the percussion program at ACSM. He has performed around the world: Bali, Indonesia (PKB), Royal Albert Hall (London), Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall (NY), Chang Kai Chek Park (Taipei), Macau Music Festival, Moscow Making Music Together Festival, Bogota, Columbia, Sound Res (Leche, Italy), Lille, France, Bang on a Can Summer Institute in Massachusetts, Madrid, Spain, Teatro Nacional in Lisbon, PAS Nashville/Indianapolis and Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, among many others.

He is the founding member of Talujon Percussion. Talujon has performed in festivals around the USA: June in Buffalo, PAS, Music on the Edge, FENAM, Caramoor and held master classes at Juilliard and MSM. He has recorded for Nonesuch, Sony, Cantaloupe and released a solo cd entitled “so long, thanks…” to critical acclaim. 

Prof. Lipsey regularly brings students to perform in locations around the world. He has performed at 6 PASIC festivals, the Asheville Percussion Festival, Bululeng and Ubud in Bali, Indonesia, RIAM in Dublin, Ireland and is working on a project to go back to Bali with his students, Talujon and the gamelan group Gamelan Yowana Sari next year.
