Theme: "Korean Religious Experiences in the U.S."
RCKC's 7th Annual Conference will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Rosenthal Library at Queens College. The theme of this year's conference is "Korean American Religious Experiences." The conference will begin at 9:30 AM and finish at 5:30 PM.
Many scholars have studied Korean immigrant and Korean-American Protestant religious beliefs and practices. However, there are not many studies of Korean immigrant or Korean-American Catholic or Buddhist beliefs and institutions. This conference will feature presentations about Korean Buddhist and Won Buddhist temples, Korean Catholic churches, and Korean Protestant churches. The presentations at this conference will pay close attention to the extent that younger-generation Korean Americans preserve the three different religious traditions and the different ways that they transform their religious faith and institutions within each religion.
Presenters at the conference will include Ruth H. Chung of University of Southern California, Grace Ji-Sun Kim or Earlham School of Religion, Rebecca Kim of Pepperdine University, Pyong Gap Min of Queens College and the Graduate Center of CUNY, Jerry Z. Park of Baylor University, Hye Sung Park of Won Institute of Graduate Studies, Andrew Cha of St. Paul Chong-Ha Sang Roman Catholic Church, Hyoung Keun Kim of Modern Buddhism magazine, and Jin Eun Park of the Won Buddhist Temple of New York.
