Professor Ortega holds a Ph.D. in Economics from New York University (2004). Currently, he has ongoing research projects in two main areas: the economic analysis of immigration and climate change. He is conducting economic analysis on some of the key immigration programs in the United States, such as the effects of the H-1B visa program and the economic gains of passing the DREAM Act. Professor Ortega also researches the economic effects of sea-level rise on property values and on the investment and relocation decisions of employers. Professor Ortega’s research has been published in a wide range of highly ranked Economics journals and has received funding from the National Science Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, the World Bank and the Center for American Progress.
