Intensive Japanese Language

The Center for Japanese Studies at Nanzan University, renowned as a leader in the field of Japanese language education for more than 40 years, is now offering an intensive summer program of the same quality as its rigorous regular Japanese program.


Location: Nagoya, Japan

NY departure and return dates:      

Option 1:  June 2 - August 3, 2019

Arrive in Nagoya: June 3

Option 2 :  July 2 - August 3, 2019

Arrive in Nagoya: July 3


Course Information

Faculty: The Center for Japanese Studies at Nanzan University.


Students must choose one option:

Option 1 - Intensive Japanese Language - 8 weeks

8 weeks - 9 credits
​ 152 hours of intensive Japanese at 6 levels (from real beginners to pre-advanced ), including a required 24 hours of conversation practice with Japanese Buddies.​

Option 2  - Intensive Japaneses Language - 4 weeks

​4 weeks - 4 credits

76 hours of intensive Japanese at 6 levels (from real beginners to pre-advanced) including a required 12 hours of conversation practice with Japanese Buddies.


Applicants must provide 2 recommendation letters and an official transcript.
If the applicant took a Japanese course, one of the recommendation letters should come from a Japanese Language professor.

Program Costs: 

Option 1:       $1735

Option 2:          $1800 

Cost includes shared Housing, differential tuition, excursions, Insurance, and QC program fee​


Not included in the above cost:

Option 1CUNY tuition: for in-state, matriculated undergraduates:    $2655 for 9 credits

Option 2 CUNY tuition: for in-state, matriculated undergraduates: :     $ 1180 for 4 credits

Airfare:                                                                             $1200 - $1500 (estimate)

​Minimum budget for meals and personal expenses:               $25 to $30 per day

Host family housing:                                                           $400 extra (Available for 8 weeks courses)


Please keep in mind:

-       Programs are open to all undergraduate students from all CUNY campuses (unless restricted by level of study, language fluency, or other program criteria).

-       Some programs may require travel on Fridays and some Saturdays

-       Students are encouraged to apply early​​
