What is the Queens College

Dr. Félix V. Matos Rodríguez Internship Fund?


 It is an internship stipend which provides financial assistance to Queens College students who are participating in unpaid internships in the arts, education, public service, non-profit agencies, and other industries that do not traditionally pay their interns.

This stipend is a one-time $2,400 financial award that will support current undergraduate and graduate students engaged in unpaid internships hosted by local organizations.

You are required to apply on HireQC (on the Symplicity platform).  Log in with your QC Username “jdoe101” and select the Jobs tab then Internship Stipend

  • WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
    • ​Undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in any major at Queens College.

      WHAT ARE THE DURATION AND HOURS FOR SUMMER OR FALL?

      You can choose either summer or fall 2020  and, in agreement with the employer, volunteer to work:

      - 150 hours total ranging 5 to 10 weeks.

  • HOW DO I APPLY?
      1. Student Log on to HireQC (Log in with QC Username “jdoe101”)
      2. Select Profile (Personal and Academic tabs) to review or update preferred email address, cell phone number, graduation year, major and GPA
      3. Select My Documents tab then select Add New
      4. Save resume as your (First Name Last Name)
      5. Select the Jobs tab then QC Internship Stipend
      6. Select Apply
      7. Select Add New under Other Documents
      8. Save your Personal statement essay (First Name Last Name Stipend 2020)
      9. Select Apply
      10. Select Add New under Other Documents
      11. Save your recommendation letter (First Name Last Name Recommendation) or email stipend@qc.cuny.edu
      12. Check all the documents
      13. Select submit

  • WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO APPLY?
    • - ​Resume
      - Personal statement essay typed - no more than 300 words
      - One letter of recommendation

      What should I include in my personal statement essay?

      - Explain how this stipend will improve or enhance your ability to explore career goals. 
      - Describe your unpaid internship; include details regarding the organization, department, and your responsibilities.
      - Persuade us why you should be selected as a recipient.

  • WHEN IS THE APPLICATION DEADLINE?
    • ​Applications will be reviewed as they are received, prior to the submission deadline.

      Sunday, March 22nd is the early application deadline.

      Sunday, April 26th is the final deadline. 

  • IF I AM SELECTED, HOW WILL I RECEIVE THE STIPEND?
    • ​If you are selected, you will receive a one-time stipend amount, to support you for the duration of your approved internship.Payments will be disbursed to selected recipients in two installments by check: $2,000 at the beginning of the experience, and $400 upon completion or 2 weeks prior.

  • WHERE CAN I GET HELP PREPARING MY APPLICATION?
  • DO I NEED TO FIND AN EMPLOYER SITE?
    • ​Yes and a career educator can also assist you with your search.

  • WHO FUNDS THIS STIPEND?
    • ​The internship stipend is made possible by the Dr. Félix Matos Rodríguez Internship Fund which is generously supported by alumni donors and the Queens College Foundation Board. It is stewarded by the Center for Career Engagement and Internships.
