Bachelor of Music in Performance

Bachelor of Music in Performance

Admission to the Bachelor of Music in Performance is by competitive audition. Open to instrumentalists and singers in the Classical tradition, our degree program combines the professional training of a conservatory and the academics of a liberal arts degree. Students take individual lessons on their principal instrument for eight semesters, culminating in a senior recital. Students perform in a large ensemble each semester and have opportunities to perform in choral and chamber groups ranging from the Baroque ensemble to the Queens College New Music Group. Our curriculum includes required courses in musicianship, music theory, and music history.

Students who are interested in combining performance and music education can apply for admission to the five-year degree program, in which students complete the full BMus Performance curriculum alongside New York State Initial Teacher Certification for classroom teaching.

We also offer the BA in Music, in which students take fewer music performance and higher-level music theory requirements, permitting students to take a broader liberal arts program, as well as minors in Music & Production, Music Theory, and Music Literature that are open to students in any undergraduate degree program at Queens College.

Advanced and academically curious students in our undergraduate programs can apply for the Accelerated MA in Musicology and Music Theory or the Accelerated MM in Composition, taking up to 12 credits of master’s level work during the undergraduate degree (at undergraduate tuition rates).

International students who do not yet have the English-language skills for university study are encouraged to consider our International Music Performance Program.
