Bachelor of Arts in Music
Bachelor of Arts in Music
Admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Music is by audition. The BA in Music is an academic music program designed for students who plan to work as composers, conductors, college music teachers, theorists, musicologists, arrangers, music librarians, music critics, or in other performance-adjacent careers. Open to instrumentalists and singers in the Classical tradition, our degree program combines a conservatory-style grounding in musical performance and the academics of a liberal arts degree. Students take individual lessons on their principal instrument; they perform in a large ensemble each semester and have opportunities to perform in choral and chamber groups ranging from Baroque ensemble to the Queens College New Music Group. Our curriculum includes required courses in musicianship, music theory, and music history. Students in the BA in Music can elect to complete their degree with a specialization in General Music, Music History, Music Theory or Composition.
