Biographical Information:
Bill Moss is a freelance recording engineer and sound designer based in New York. He started his career at the legendary Nola Recording Studios high above Steinway Hall. There, under the mentorship of Jim Czak and John Post, Bill learned classic analog recording techniques, working with reel to reel tape and ensembles of all sizes playing together in a room. Nola had quite a diverse client list, from Marilyn Horne to Lena Horne, the cast of Rent to the cast of Sesame Street. Over a nearly 20 year span, Bill worked on thousands of recording sessions with a venerable “Who’s Who” of Jazz and the Great American Songbook. Highlights included Lionel Hampton, Michael Feinstein, John Pizzarelli, Frank Wess, Harry Allen, Dick Hyman, Dave Frishberg, Don Sebesky and hundreds more. The fruits of that long stint at Nola include; a Latin Grammy (The Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra: Final Night At Birdland), Nominations for 3 Daytime Emmys (Sesame Street) and a Grammy Nomination for Best Engineered, Non-classical recording (Elvis Costello: North). As digital recording gained a larger foothold in the professional audio industry, Bill was able to take those tried and true techniques and transition them to the ProTools world. This expanded his production skills into concert recording for live broadcast (Sirius/XM, WNYC Radio, NPR), and album releases from a wide range of venues including; Birdland, The Blue Note, BB Kings, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, The Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel and Symphony Space. In 2015, Bill joined New York Public Radio as a Senior Broadcast Engineer, and mixed hundreds of news features, and worked on many award-winning Podcasts (Trump Inc, The United States of Anxiety, There Goes the Neighborhood), Currently, Bill has his own production company that mixes Podcasts for a number of clients (A&E, Lemonada Media, Audible, Business Insider) and continues to record, mix and master albums across a range of genres.
