Biographical Information:
Edmund Chiarello serves as an Adjunct Professor of Music Education and Supervisor of Student Teachers at Long Island University Post, as well as an Adjunct Lecturer and Supervisor of Student Teachers at the Aaron Copland School, CUNY. Professor Chiarello is also the current President of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), where he has previously held roles including President-Elect, Second Vice President, Zone 13 Representative, and Percussion Adjudicator.
Professor Chiarello’s extensive career in public education includes teaching instrumental music, serving as Coordinator of Music in Valley Stream, and as Director of Fine and Performing Arts for the Baldwin School District. He remains actively involved in music education, working as an administrative consultant for various school districts and serving on the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts Professional Development Team. In this role, Professor Chiarello facilitates professional development sessions for teachers, administrators, and pre- service educators across the state.
In addition to his work in education, Ed Chiarello is an accomplished NYC-based theater musician. He has performed on 19 regional Broadway Actor’s Equity tours and has appeared as a substitute musician on and off Broadway. His credits also include performances in the New York Musical Theatre Festival, including the premieres of two original works. A dedicated jazz artist, he regularly performs with the LP Big Band and rehearses original compositions with a jazz quintet. He also plays for the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) and the Off- Broadway TADA! Youth Theater.
