Master of Music in Jazz Studies
Master of Music in Jazz Studies (MM)
The Master of Music in Jazz Studies was founded in 1986 by saxophonist, composer, arranger, and NEA Jazz Master recipient: Jimmy Heath. The MMus in Jazz Studies is open to candidates in jazz performance and jazz composition. Both tracks of the degree prepare students for careers in jazz as performers, arrangers, composers, educators, and leaders.
The program offers advanced courses in jazz harmony, improvisation, composition, arranging, and jazz history. All students receive individual private instruction on their main instrument, participate in jazz performance ensembles, and can draw upon a wide range of elective courses specifically tailored to the needs of today’s professional musicians.
Audition Registration Deadline:
The deadline is a week prior to the audition date based on the instrument. For example, if voice auditions are on February 25; the GetAcceptd application deadline will be February 18.
