Master of Science in Music Education

Master of Science in Music Education (MSEd)

The Master of Science in Music Education is open to teachers holding a bachelor’s degree and the Initial Certification in Music Education; the program is accredited by the New York State Education Department (NY-SED) and leads to the Professional Teacher Certification. Students take a flexible curriculum, advancing their knowledge and skills in the areas of pedagogy, research, teaching philosophies, psychology, and conducting. The degree culminates in a thesis or summative project. Students may focus on choral, instrumental, general music, conducting, composition, pedagogy, or jazz.

Teachers who have completed a bachelor’s degree in music but do not hold the Initial Certification in Music Education should take the Advanced Certificate in Music Education before applying to take the MSEd.

Audition Registration Deadline:

The deadline is a week prior to the audition date based on the instrument. For example, if voice auditions are on February 25; the GetAcceptd application deadline will be February 18.
