The SEES Atmospheric Sciences Group studies the role of the atmosphere in regulating the exchanges of mass and energy with the biosphere, the influence of severe weather on the megacity, and the megacity as a source of pollutants and energy to the atmosphere. |

The SEES Biogeoscience Group integrates the roles played by biology into the scientific study of the Earth. Our research elucidates the roles of living organism in cycling of elements through the soils, streams, oceans and atmosphere and the interactions of climate change and the biosphere. |

The geochemistry group in SEES uses a variety of analytical and theoretical approaches to understand natural and anthropogenic processes and changes in the Earth System today, and to apply the approaches and understanding of modern processes to past environmental change. |

The SEES Geology/Geophysics Group studies the materials and processes that make up and modify the Earth’s landmasses, the seafloor and its subsurface, the hydrosphere and crysophere. Our research interests span from the early formation of the Earth to the present and extends globally with field locations from the Arctic to Antarctic. Our focus is towards societal relevant problems and geohazards including all aspects of the Earth from internal to surficial and with a special focus on populated coastal environments. |

The SEES Water Resources Group investigates physical, chemical, and biological aspects of hydrology to understand the distribution, quantity, and quality of surface and groundwater. Many of our studies also investigate the influence of human activities and policies on our water resources. |
