Berlin: 

German Language and European Studies

Visit and explore the capital of Germany, a European center of science, politics, culture, and the arts. One of the most affordable capitals within Europe, Berlin’s many attractions draw in students and visitors from around the world. Our host, Freie universitat offers German language courses at five different proficiency levels, and subject courses in English on European topics. Program fee includes a guided tour through the Reichstag Building and the Federal Parliament, a riverboat tour through downtown Berlin, a FUBiS student ID (for reduced price meals at the dining hall).​

Location & Dates:​

Location: Berlin, Germany

NY departure and return dates: May 24–July 6, 2019

Arrive in Berlin in the morning of May 25

Course Information:​

Faculty: Freie Universität Berlin


Courses: Students must enroll in one of the following options:


Option 1: A German Language course only (6 credits total)


FUBIS German Semi-Intensive Language Beginner 1

FUBIS German Semi-Intensive Language Beginner 2​

FUBIS German Semi-Intensive Language Intermediate 1​

FUBIS German Semi-Intensive Language Intermediate 2

FUBIS German Semi-Intensive Language Advanced​


Option 2: One German Language course and one subject course (9 credits total)


Subject Courses (3 credits each):

HISTORY OF EUROPEAN ART: CENTERS, PROTAGONISTS, & CULTURAL IDENTITIES

SEDUCTION AND TERROR: HITLER’S GERMANY

LAW, SOCIETY, AND POLITICS IN COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE

EUROPE, MIGRATION, REFUGEES


All courses besides German Language are taught in English


Housing: student dormitories or homestay

Program Costs:

  • Option 1: $2000
  • Option 2: $2800 


(Program cost includes housing in single room in shared dormitories, differential tuition, excursions, QC program fee and insurance)

 

**Not included in the above cost:


Option 1 -CUNY tuition for in-state, matriculated undergraduates - 6 credits:   $1770   

Option 2 -CUNY tuition for in-state, matriculated undergraduates - 9 credits:    $2655  ​



Airfare:                                                                                           $1000 - $1300 (estimate)

​Minimum budget for meals and personal expenses:                             $25 to $30 per day

Host family housing:                                                                         $450 extra 


Please keep in mind:

-       Programs are open to all undergraduate students from all CUNY campuses (unless restricted by level of study, language fluency, or other program criteria).

-       Some programs may require travel on Fridays and some Saturdays

-       Students are encouraged to apply early
