Tuition Assistance Awards

Queens College Foundation graduate scholarships. Entering graduate students are eligible to apply for graduate scholarships made available through the Queens College Foundation. Please find details about these scholarships and the link to submit your application at https://www.qc.cuny.edu/ga. The deadline for scholarship applications is March 15th.

Media Studies tuition assistance awards. In addition, the Media Studies department offers outstanding MA students a limited number of opportunities for tuition assistance through internal scholarship funds available each year. All internal awards decisions are made by the MA Director in consultation with the MA Committee. In extraordinary circumstances, a student may be selected to receive a tuition assistance award at the discretion of the MA Director in consultation with the MA Committee.

The number and amounts of awards vary each year and are based on the following criteria –

1. Student’s undergraduate GPA; and

2. Special personal/family circumstances impacting a student’s need for tuition assistance.

Although applicants for tuition assistance awards do not have to be registered for classes in order to apply or be selected, all award recipients must be registered for a minimum of 9 graduate credits during the semester(s) the award is granted.

To be considered for departmental tuition assistance, please send a 500-word statement explaining why you are a worthy candidate via email (in MSWord or PDF format only) to the MA Director. Your awards statement should not duplicate information already included in your admissions application essay. Instead, focus your statement on special attributes and needs that set you apart and qualify you for tuition assistance. You may address questions like –

  • From a financial standpoint, what impact would a tuition assistance award have on your education?
  • Are there any special personal/family circumstances affecting your need for tuition assistance?
  • How have you financed your previous college or university education?

You may submit the same statement to be considered for all graduate scholarships, internal as well as campus-wide. To ensure full consideration, please apply as early as possible, and preferably no later than March 15th. Although only matriculated students in the MA program in Media Studies are eligible to receive tuition assistance, new applicants may apply for awards at the same time that they apply for admission to the MA program.
