Andrea Rosso Efthymiou, PhD 
andrea.efthymiou@qc.cuny.edu

Originally from California, Andrea has worked in writing center administration in the New York area since 2007. Andrea researches how working in a writing center affects tutors’ civic engagement. She earned her PhD at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and her BA at University of California at Los Angeles. Outside of the writing center, she can often be found cooking, swimming, or traveling with her family.

Annie (she/her) is a writer and writing centers enthusiast who comes to Queens College by way of the Midwest, where she earned a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Southern Illinois University and Bachelors degrees in English and French from the University of Missouri. She’s worked in writing centers since 2017 when she began as a peer tutor. When not on campus, she’s likely exploring the city with friends, reading on the train, or running quite slowly.

Additionally, I have experience in Caribbean English-derived languages, and Caribbean/Cultural literature, so feel free to reach out if you ever need support in those areas. Hi there! I’m Alifa Rahman, a junior double-majoring in Economics and Computer Science here at QC. Whether you’re just getting started or putting the finishing touches on your writing, I’m happy to help! As someone who speaks both Bangla and English, I welcome the opportunity to work with multilingual students or anyone looking to strengthen their voice in academic or personal writing. Hello writers, my name is Lars! 😊 I am a sophomore, and my majors are Elementary & Early Childhood Education and Psychology. I am also a part of the Macaulay Honors College! My education focus is in TESOL, and I’ve currently been learning basic conversational-level Korean for about a year. A fun fact about me is that I am a part of the e-boards for the K-pop club and the Crochet club!

Having taken ENGL110H and HNRS126W as well as MUSIC121, I will be able to provide guidance across various styles of writing. My parents are from Jamaica, so I have been exposed to the Caribbean dialect and culture for my entire life. I look forward to working with you!

I am also bilingual and can communicate with you in either English or Russian, whichever you prefer. Hi there! I’m Natalie, a Junior double-majoring in sociology and political science. In addition to tutoring at the Writing Center, I’m an editor for The Knight News and a lifelong creative writer. I’m eager to help make navigating the writing process a little easier for you! My mission is to equip you with tools to help you clearly express your ideas and boost your voice and confidence as an English writer. I welcome writing of all academic disciplines and genres as well as professional writing, such as cover letters and resumes. If you need any special accommodations, I will do my best during our tutoring session to accommodate you however I can. Finally, a fun fact about me: I have 4+ years’ experience studying French!

I’m multilingual—I speak Hindi and Marathi in addition to English, which gives me a broader perspective on language and different ways of expressing my ideas. Hi! My name is Eliana, and I’m a graduate student focusing in Social Studies Education. For my undergraduate degree, I majored in History (Jewish) and East Asian Studies (Area Studies), and minored in Jewish Studies. I am familiar with a range of topics, such as history, anthropology, religion, and creative writing. As the recipient of several writing awards during my undergraduate years and an avid writer of both non-fiction and fiction, I aim to help, and look forward to working with you. In addition to English, I’m familiar with, and can read, write, and somewhat speak, the Hebrew language. I’m also well versed in a variety of literature – from Pu Songling’s Liaozhai Zhiyi to Aaron Demsky’s These Are the Names and Pleasant Are Their Names – and I am excited not only to aid you, but also learn from you and your writing.

I believe in sincerity and authenticity when it comes to writing, be it creative or academic, and I am excited to work alongside you in cultivating your genuine voice in your writing.

The Writing Center is lucky to collaborate with the Queens College AANIPISI Project’s multilingual AAPI tutors. In prior semesters, QCAP tutors, as well as additional members of the QCWC staff, have worked with students in a variety of languages such as Bengali, Hindi, Mandarin, Spanish, and Urdu.
