The Department of Theatre, Dance & Fashion is thrilled to announce our new ticket policy. This year, all Queens College students get one free ticket to all of our shows. Tickets may be picked up at the theatre box office one-hour prior to the start of the show (sorry, no reservations).

This is intended only for students working on class or related projects. If you are a club, please continue to submit your room requests through Uknighted.

Our office is open on Monday- Thursday from 9 am – 4:30 pm, with some staff lunchbreaks around 12 – 1 pm. Fridays the office is available by phone or email from 9 am – 5 pm. We can be reached by phone (718-997-3090).

MAJOR AND MINOR DECLARATION INFORMATION

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREREGISTRATION AND ADVISEMENT

• Majors in Theatre and Dance should contact their advisor or Professor Meghan Healey (meghan.healey@qc.cuny.edu) for instructions on how to participate in preregistration.
• If you did not meet with your advisor prior to the instructional recess, you can request a phone or online appointment by emailing your advisor. You must complete your advisement before you are allowed to preregister or register for permission only classes.
• All preregistration and permission only registration requests to our office will be done online. If there is an issue with your registration you may be asked to make a phone appointment to resolve it. You may leave questions about registration on the main office voicemail- 718-997-3090.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REGISTRATION TO A PERMISSION ONLY COURSE

• All permissions are granted by the professor of the course. Please contact that professor by email to receive permission in writing.
• If you are a transfer student who completed a prerequisite at another university, please be sure to attach a transcript, a catalogue description and/or syllabus of the prerequisite course, and please note that some courses require a prerequisite and an audition or interview so you may be asked to submit additional materials (this affects Acting IV, Theatre/Dance Collaboration, and MFA preparation Workshops)
• Acting IV requires permission and the prerequisite course and MFA preparation is an invitation only course. Please email Professor Claudia Feldstein (claudia.feldstein@qc.cuny.edu) for more information.
• We do not waive prerequisites or add anyone to courses that are already fully enrolled in this program.
• Classics Majors registering for Drama 201 can contact Professor Healey for permission to register for that course.
• Theatre Production and Dance Production are audition only courses, and the auditions will be posted online and by our office in Rathaus.

AS ALWAYS, THERE IS NO OVERTALLY FOR ANY THEATRE OR DANCE COURSES FOR ANY REASON

• We will not respond to any email or voice messages requesting entrance to a closed section of any course.
• If a section is closed because it is full then you cannot take that course, so please select a different section, another course, or join the waitlist.
• Please do not remove yourself from the waitlist to try and get into a closed course, the result is that you will also lose your space on the waitlist.
• The registrar’s office manages the waitlist, our office cannot assist you with those issues, so please contact the QC hub for guidance.

Applications are now open for the Martin Nuruddin Scholarship

The Nuruddin Scholarship is named in honor of Queens College DTD alumnus Martin Nuruddin, who spent 44 years as a member of IATSE and was the Vice President of PRG Orlando, one of the largest theatrical lighting suppliers in the world. This $1,200 award, sponsored by his family, is to be given annually to one DTD student who is pursuing a professional career in technical theatre. Students who are interested in this award must apply, as well as fulfill the prerequisite of having gotten a job working in a backstage or design capacity in a professional summer experience, including but not limited to—summer stock, theatre/dance camp, professional productions in Regional or off-Broadway settings, festivals, etc. It is intended for this scholarship to be a salary supplement, and make it possible for you, the students, to take an opportunity that might otherwise not be financially viable.

Students should also do their own research for opportunities to work backstage this summer. Many companies are already hiring.
