Mutt-i-grees: Course Description
The Mutt-i-grees Curriculum is a proven, innovative program bridging social and emotional learning and humane education, teaching children and teens to be calm, confident, and caring. Implemented in nearly 4,000 schools and libraries nationwide, the Mutt-i-grees Curriculum is aligned with New York State Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), Common Core State Standards and National Health Education Standards.
The Mutt-i-grees Curriculum Certificate Program is a 20-hour course covering the emerging research on the benefits and educational implications of human-animal interactions, resiliency and social and emotional learning. Participants will learn about the theory and research base underlying the Mutt-i-grees Curriculum, how the curriculum is used by educators in regular classrooms and in special education. The role of the dog is emphasized in engaging all children, including those who are at risk for educational failure or who have been diagnosed with behavioral or developmental disorders. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the Mutt-i-grees Curriculum and its various uses and applications as well as the special events and activities promoted annually as part of the curriculum. Upon completion of the certificate program, participants will also have concrete ideas about how they can enhance social and emotional skills through implementation of the curriculum and will acquire the ability to inform others in their schools and organizations about the curriculum and help with implementation.
