PTM Course Descriptions

Two tracks available:

Tennis Professional Certificate
  • Three-semester program is designed to be completed in 18 months.
  • Focus is on tennis teaching skills; for tennis players with a National Tennis Rating Program rating of 3.5 or higher.
  • On-court workshop introduces learning progressions and competitive tactics.
  • Online modules address underlying sports science, practical applications, lesson plans, long-term athlete development, tournament planning, and more.
  • Classroom sessions cover customer service, team building, orientation for internships and job placement, and more.
  • Program requires students to pass a tennis-pro certification test from a USTA-accredited organization. The cost of the test and preparation for it are included in the PTM tuition.
  • Licensed physical education teachers and administrators with previous work experience at tennis and fitness facilities may receive some credit for their experience.
Tennis Management Certificate
  • Three-semester program is designed to be completed in 18 months.
  • Focus is on management of tennis facilities, programs and events.
  • On-court workshop introduces basic learning progressions.
  • Online modules address facility construction and maintenance, tennis program development, business models, marketing and sales, community relations, operating USTA-sanctioned tournaments, and more.
  • Classroom sessions cover customer service, team building, starting a small business, orientation for internships and job placement, and more.
  • Licensed physical education teachers and administrators with previous work experience at tennis and fitness facilities may receive some credit for their experience.
