Self-Study Preparation Visit

On Monday, May 6, 2024, Queens College hosted Middle States Vice President Liaison Ryan Hartnett. Dr. Hartnett met with President Frank H. Wu, Interim Provost Patricia Price, CUNY representative Anne Lopes, members of the steering committee, and members of the Queens College community. This visit is an important milestone for the accreditation cycle through which Queens College showed our accreditors that we are on track to successfully complete our Self-Study.

Self-Study Design Complete

April 2024

The process for how the Self-Study will take place at Queens College has been assembled into the Self-Study Design document. It is the result of months-long work by the Executive Steering Committee with contributions from the 70 community members serving on the Working Groups.

Working Groups Meet and Start Drafting Lines of Inquiry

March 2024

From February through April 2024, the seven Working Groups are developing the Lines of Inquiry that form the basis for the Self-Study Report. These research questions are synthesized by considering the Working Group’s Standard of Accreditation and the Institutional Priorities that are common across all Working Groups.

Middle States Newsbreak Launched

The Self-Study Process now has a newsletter: Middle States Newsbreak. This publication will be sent to faculty and staff three times a semester to update the campus on our progress towards re-Accreditation. Access archived issues of the Middle States Newsbreak here.

Self-Study Kick-Off Event Held

February 2024

On Monday, February 5, 2024, Queens College kicked off the Self-Study Process by hosting a lunch for all the Working Group members and members of the Operational Excellence Team. President Frank H. Wu celebrated this milestone and thanked the participants for serving as their service. The participants learned about the Self-Study Process and had a chance to get to know everyone involved.

The work of the Self-Study interacts with the campus community in many ways. We have identified data analysis, communication, information management and technology, and administrative support as key areas in which dedicated personnel will be crucial to the success of the Self-Study Process. The Executive Steering Committee has contacted prospective members of this Operational Excellence Team members and invited them to serve.

Working Group Members Identified and Invited to Serve

The work of the Self-Study is broken down by the Standards of Accreditation with one Working Group for each of the Standards. These working groups consist of ten members of the Queens College community, led by two Working Group Co-Chairs: one member of the faculty and one member of the professional staff. The Working Group Co-Chairs and the Executive Steering Committee worked together to identify prospective Working Group members and invited them to serve in this essential role.

Executive Steering Committee meets with MSCHE VP Liaison

January 2024

Our accrediting agency, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, regularly checks in with each campus undergoing re-accreditation to ensure that the process is progressing in regular order. Our VP Liaison, Robert Bonfiglio, met with the Executive Steering Committee on January 4, 2024. This meeting went well and we were assured that Queens College is prepared and on schedule.

First Meeting of the Steering Committee

The members of the Self-Study Steering Committee met for the first time on December 11, 2023. It was a chance to discuss the Self Study Process and get to know each other. The Steering Committee is comprised of the Executive Steering Committee and the fourteen Co-Chairs of the Working Groups.

This conference provides attendees with the opportunity to learn best practices for the Self Study Process from other institutions. Working Group Co-Chairs Identified and Invited to Serve

An essential piece of the Self-Study is the role of the Working Group Co-Chairs. They coordinate the work of their Working Group, they submit drafts of reports on schedule, they communicate across the working groups as representatives to the Steering Committee, and represent their group to the campus community. These members of the Queens College Community have been identified and invited to serve in this essential role.
