Trauma-Informed Skill-Building for Faculty

Trauma-Informed Skill-Building for Faculty: Supporting Yourselves While Supporting Your Students Amidst Global and Local Crises

This 3-part workshop series is designed to create a safe and reflective space for faculty members to engage with their experiences both within and beyond the classroom. The series integrates principles from Somatic Experiencing, neurobiology, and trauma-informed pedagogy. Participants will develop practical skills to support themselves and their students, engage and facilitate challenging conversations, and cultivate a classroom environment that fosters overall well-being. Additionally, the series emphasizes community building through providing a platform for faculty to share and collectively process their experiences. While we encourage participation in the full series, faculty are invited to attend any of the workshops.

The titles and dates of each workshop are listed below. All workshops will be held from 12-2 pm on Zoom.

  • Part 1: Exploring Somatics: Resourcing and Grounding in Our Bodies- 3/8/24

Exploring Somatics: Resourcing and Grounding in Our Bodies

This workshop will explore the role of neurobiology-informed tools for cultivating increased capacity in times of crisis and heightened stress. Participants will gain insights into practical techniques for integrating somatic approaches into their daily lives and fostering a resilient and grounded presence both inside and outside of the classroom.

Goals:

  1. Develop skills to stay grounded and present in the classroom.
  2. Develop language and a framework for understanding the physiological, emotional and psychological impacts of external stressors and crises, and an analysis of how that shows up in the classroom.
  3. Foster a sense of connectedness within the academic community through somatic awareness.
