WN Reversal

A WN (Never Attended) grade is assigned when a student is reported as having never begun attendance or participated in an academically related activity for a course.

If a student was reported as never attending or participating but did begin attendance or participate in the course, the instructor may submit a WN Reversal request through CUNYfirst.

When to Submit a WN Reversal

A WN Reversal should be submitted when a WN grade needs to be corrected because the student began attendance or participated in an academically related activity.

Before submitting a request, instructors should confirm that the student participated in the course.

Examples of academically related activities include:

Attending class
Submitting an academic assignment
Taking an exam, quiz, or other course assessment
Participating in an assigned study group
Participating in an online academic discussion
Completing an online academically related activity
Contacting the instructor with a course-related academic question

Important: Simply logging into an online course is not sufficient, by itself, to establish participation.

How to Submit a WN Reversal

WN Reversal requests are submitted through the CUNYfirst Grade Change Process.

Log in to CUNYfirst.
Open Faculty Center.
Select Grade Change Forms.
Select Request WN Reversal.
Select the appropriate academic institution, term, and class.
Select the student whose WN grade needs to be reversed.
Select a Reason and enter a Brief Description.
Set Acknowledgement to Yes.
Review the request and select Submit.

A confirmation message will appear after the request is submitted.

Important

The student must have a WN grade posted for the selected class.
The student must have begun attendance or participated in the course.
A Reason and Brief Description are required.
If no student in the class has a WN grade, CUNYfirst will not allow a WN Reversal request to be submitted.
