Master of Arts in Musicology
Master of Arts in Musicology
The Master of Arts in Musicology was conceived as a preparatory program for students hoping to continue onto a doctoral degree; the MA in Musicology is ideal for any student wanting to think critically about music, sound, and history. Classes focus on critical thinking, disciplinary literacy, and recent trends in music scholarship, along with a solid foundation in musicianship, analysis and basic music theory. Students work closely with faculty mentors to develop research skills and written fluency; the degree culminates in the completion of a master’s thesis. After the completion of the first semester, students are able to enroll in a select number of doctoral seminars at the CUNY Graduate Center.
Advanced and academically curious students in our undergraduate programs can apply for the Accelerated MA in Musicology, taking up to 12 credits of master’s level work during the undergraduate degree (atundergraduate tuition rates).
