Biographical Information:
Gilad Rabinovitch is Associate Professor of Music Theory at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College. He has published widely on eighteenth-century phrase schemata and historical improvisation, among other topics. His work has appeared in journals including Music Theory Online, Music Theory Spectrum, and the Journal of Music Theory. He is the recipient of a 2023 Emerging Scholar Award from the Society for Music Theory for an article on Carl Czerny and improvisation. He has presented at various music-studies conferences and has given invited talks at institutions including Michigan State University, Northwestern University, the University of Montreal, and the University of Texas at Austin. He is working on a book project tentatively titled Tracing Improvisation in Nineteenth-Century Piano Music—-following paths to reimagining the sounds of improvisation in this period.
