The Queens College Music Library holds approximately 5,000 vinyl records in its storage collection, which can be played on three (3) turntables in the Media Lab on the lower level. To access these items, please bring the Barcode, LP Call Number, and Title to the ML Circulation Desk so that staff may retrieve the item(s) for you. In addition to searching the table by artist, record label imprint, and record title, you can sort and search items by “Period / Form” tags. All items are labeled with at least one (1) of the following tags: Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, Mixed; Chinese Classical, Indian Classical, Japanese Classical; Blues, Film Scores, Folk / Indigenous, Jazz, Musicals, Popular, and Theory.

Borrowing LPs

Please provide the following information at the Music Library Circulation Desk so that staff can retrieve the correct item(s):

• Artist Name(s)
• Album Title
• LP Number
• Barcode

All LPs have a 3-hour loan period. Headphones and the stylus (“needle”) for the Technics can each be loaned out from the Circ Desk, both for renewable 2-hour periods.

Turntables & Turntable Use

The Music Library Media Lab currently features two (2) Technics SL1200mk2 record players and one (1) Teac LP-R400 combination record & CD player. Music Library staff is trained to assist patrons in getting set up with and using the turntables. Most members of our community have limited experience with record players of this type, so don’t hesitate to ask for assistance or guidance.

Record Player Workshops & Instruction

The Music Librarian offers occasional group and individual instruction sessions on use of the turntables. Please contact the Music Library to inquire about scheduling and availability of instruction sessions. For more information contact musiclibrary@qc.cuny.edu.
