A meta-theatrical melodrama of epic proportions! It’s 1859, and Louisiana plantation Terrebonne is on the brink of bankruptcy. Heir apparent George Peyton arrives and falls in love with Zoe, who is one-eighth black. But the villainous overseer M’Closky will stop at nothing to keep Terrebonne and Zoe for himself. Playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins explodes Dion Boucicault’s 19th-century melodrama with this radical and funny adaptation- a searing look at race in America today.
