Second BA Program for the Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology
About the Program
The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) Program offers two options for those applicants who have already obtained a bachelor’s degree and wish to take courses that are required for application to Graduate School in Speech-Language Pathology:
Students who have an undergraduate degree in another field (related or unrelated to Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology) and who would like to change career paths can choose either of our 2nd BA Program options listed below.
- Option A – 2nd BA Prerequisites Track (minimum of 29 Credits, no degree awarded)
- Option B – 2nd BA Full Degree Track (minimum of 30 Credits plus 12 credits outside the CSD major taken at QC, grants a second BA)
Students accepted into the program will choose either:
- Option A – Complete a sequence of courses in the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) major that are required for entry into any master’s program in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology.
Total of 29 credits (plus additional courses needed for graduate school, such as Statistics).
Or
- Option B – Complete the full undergraduate curriculum in CSD.
Total of 47 credits ( All 30 credits must be taken at Queens College.

- Apply to and be accepted into the 2nd BA Program in the Communication Science and Disorders major. When accepted, the student will choose the option they would prefer to follow to complete coursework.

Registration Process
CSD majors register into courses during the regular registration period in CUNYfirst.
NOTE: If you are part of a special group that gets priority with early registration, such as Macaulay Honors or the Seek Program, know that you will need to register on the regular registration date for all CSD courses based on your student classification (i.e., Sophomore, Junior, Senior).
Please check your emails and the bulletin board outside QH Room 301A for program updates regarding registration schedules.
QC students are not permitted to take CSD major courses at other colleges or universities through the E-permit process.

Admissions
Admission to the 2nd BA Program is a competitive process. To be eligible to apply, students must have had a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in their first BA. Applications are accepted throughout the year and are reviewed for acceptance on a rolling basis.
- Once matriculated into the program, each student will participate in advisement with their assigned CSD Faculty Academic Advisor.
- If accepted into the program, it is highly recommended that all the prerequisite classes be completed at Queens College.

For ALL 2nd BA students:
Students are departmentally enrolled in two or three CSD courses a semester. Prior to registration student will receive a course request form to complete and return to the CSD department.
In addition to the courses listed below, graduate schools in Speech-Language Pathology require students to have taken courses in statistics, biological sciences, and physical sciences (Chemistry or Physics).

There are some differences between the courses required for the 2nd BA Prerequisites Only Track (Option A) and the 2nd BA full degree track (Option B). The 2nd BA Prerequisites Only (Option A) Track does not require students to take LCD 105 and LCD 316). Completion of the 2nd BA Prerequisites only (Option A) Track takes 3 to 4 semesters. Students do not receive a degree when they complete the 2nd BA pre-requisite only course sequence. |
Courses follow the same sequence as required of the undergraduate CSD majors. Completion of the CSD major courses for the 2nd BA Full Degree Track often takes about 4 to 5 semesters. Students do receive a 2nd BA degree when they complete the required coursework. Courses that can be taken any time: 12-13 credits:

First Level: 15 credits No pre-requisites required for the following classes.
Enrollment in LCD 207 AND LCD 208 in the same semester is not recommended. Certain minimum grades must be reached to continue to second level courses. (See below). |
First Level: 9 credits
In order to enroll in Second Level classes, students must obtain a 3.0 or above GPA average across these 3 100 level courses. One course retake allowed. |

Second Level: 14 credits
It is recommended that if students receive a grade lower than a C- in a 300-level course, you retake this course. |
Second Level: 9 credits
Must obtain a B- in each class in order to enroll in Third Level courses. One course retake allowed. Enrollment in LCD 207 AND LCD 208 in the same semester is not recommended. |

Third Level: 17 credits Third Level classes require a minimum of 2 semesters to complete.
No grade lower than a C- in any Third Level class will not count toward this major. |
