Queens College Rosentha

Student Email Change - Spring 2026

Beginning April 13, 2026, Queens College students will move from the current @qmail.cuny.edu email system to a new, centralized CUNY student email platform.

This change creates one secure Microsoft 365 inbox for all your CUNY student email and services.

What you should do before April 13

To avoid access issues, we strongly recommend completing the following steps in advance:

  • Review the Frequently Asked Questions (below)
  • Set up Microsoft Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA)
  • Familiarize yourself with your new sign‑in format: firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu

What’s changing?

  • Your @qmail.cuny.edu account will be migrated automatically
  • Messages sent to your old address will continue to reach you through forwarding
  • You will receive a Queens College–branded email alias: firstname.lastname##@stu-mail.qc.cuny.edu
  • Microsoft MFA will be required to access your student email
    • If MFA is not set up ahead of time, you will be prompted during your first login after April 13

Benefits and key features

  • One inbox across CUNY: All of your CUNY student email—across campuses and roles—will be delivered to a single Microsoft 365 mailbox. No more checking multiple accounts.
  • Automatic migration and delivery
    • Existing email messages and folders will transfer automatically
    • Emails sent to your former address will still be delivered
    • Senders will see your new @stu-mail.qc.cuny.edu address
  • Global directory and sender options
    • The address search now includes the entire CUNY directory
      • Be sure to confirm the campus and department before sending
    • You can select which CUNY email address appears as the sender when composing messages

Why this matters:

This unified system is easier to manage, more secure, and consistent across all CUNY colleges.

FAQs: CUNY Student Email Migration – April 2026

Why should I set up Microsoft MFA now?

All students must enroll in Microsoft 365 Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA) using their CUNY Login credentials: firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu

MFA protects your identity when accessing:

  • Your new Queens College email
  • Microsoft 365 services (Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, etc.)

Important: This MFA setup is separate from the MFA used for:

  • CUNYfirst
  • Brightspace
  • Zoom
  • Your former @qmail.cuny.edu account

Even if you already use MFA elsewhere, you must complete this new setup.

How to get started:
CUNY provides step‑by‑step instructions here: https://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/cis/technology-services/microsoft-mfa/
Setting this up early will ensure uninterrupted access after the migration.

How do I sign in to my new email?

Use the following credentials to access email and Microsoft 365 tools:

Username: firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu
Password: Your CUNY Login password

You can sign in at: https://outlook.com or while configuring email on your phone or computer.

Do I need to migrate my account myself?

No. On April 13, 2026, your new email account will be created automatically, and your existing messages will be transferred.

At first login, you will:

  • Sign in using your CUNY Login account
  • Complete Microsoft MFA if not already set up
What if someone emails my old @qmail.cuny.edu address?
You will still receive it. Messages sent to your former address will be forwarded automatically to your new mailbox.
Will I lose any existing emails?
No. Your emails, folders, and attachments will migrate into your new inbox. Nothing will be deleted as part of this transition.
What is my new primary email address?

Your primary account identity will be:

firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu

This account includes multiple email aliases that all point to the same inbox, such as:

  • firstname.lastname##@stu-mail.qc.cuny.edu (Queens College)
  • firstname.lastname##@cuny.edu
I attend more than one CUNY college. Which email should I use?

You only need one inbox. All messages from any CUNY college will be delivered to the same mailbox.

When replying or sending new messages, you can select the address you want recipients to see.

Why do I see so many names when typing an email address?
Your new email is connected to the CUNY Global Directory, which includes students, faculty, and staff across all CUNY campuses.

Always double‑check the campus or department before sending to avoid misdirected messages.

What happens to my Microsoft Office files?
Your Microsoft Office access continues uninterrupted.

If you stored files in OneDrive connected to your old QMail account, download them and upload them to your new Microsoft 365 account to ensure continued access.
