Historical Resources
Historical Tests and Assessments Collection
This collection consists of psychological assessments, aptitude tests, career and technical training exams, and subject area exams by grade level. Included are select exams from the University of the State of New York, such as the Regents Scholarship Examination (1946-1949) and the Junior High School Survey Tests (1950-1966). Tests authored by City University of New York faculty, New York City Board of Education administrators, New York public school teachers, city government offices, and other education-related institutions in New York provide examples of testing and assessment practices from mid-20th century New York. A select assortment of exams by topic area serve to highlight testing and assessment trends on a national level. Finally, a small set of elementary school tests (1963-1966) from the Departamento de instrucción pública of Puerto Rico give a sense of education in Puerto Rico during a period of high migration from the island to New York City.
