Declaration of Major
To declare a major in accounting, a student must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher and have completed at least 30 credits either at Queens College or another institution. To remain in the accounting program, a student must maintain an Accounting Major GPA of 2.5 or higher after taking four classes required for the major. C is the minimum grade accepted in ALL Accounting & Information Systems courses, without exception.
Follow the Steps Below to Declare Accounting Major
Step 1: Download and complete the Major Declaration Form.
Step 2: Download the following forms.&
Read Concentration Form Instructions and Green Sheet before you fill in your concentration form.
- Following the instructions to fill in the transfer column for transferred courses, the Actual/Planned Class Column and Actual/Planned Semester/Year column for all the courses that you have taken or expect to take before you graduate.
- Only very limited number of courses are offered in winter.
- Select one elective course from the following Group A electives and another elective course from Group B electives and fill in Actual/Planned Class standing and Actual/Planned Semester/year.
Group A Electives: Accounting 341, 343, 350, 363, 385, 393W, 398, 331, 355, 369, 373, 382, 391, 392
Group B Electives: Accounting: 385; Business: 243, 247, 341w, 351; Economics: 201, 202, 213, 214, 218, 220, 225, 229, 242, 246,317, 326, 328, 340, 382
Step 3: Take the Concentration form, and Declaration of Major Form to the Accounting Department office (PH215) and have an advisor assigned to you.
Step 4: Bring the completed “Concentration Form” and Declaration of Major Form to your advisor during his office hours for advice and a sign off, and save a signed copy for your records. During spring 2021 semester, when school is in remote learning mode, email those forms to the Accounting Department at accounting@qc.cuny.edu .
Step 5: Save a copy of the approved forms for your records, and bring the signed Declaration of Major Form to QCHub for final processing except for forms signed in Spring 2021 which will be sent by the Accounting Department to QCHub directly.
Filling up a Concentration Form help students plan their future semesters ahead for a timely graduation. Declaration of major is a process that takes time and planning. Students should start early enough to complete it before the next registration deadline.
