Portuguese Basic Language Courses

PORT 111. Elementary Portuguese I. 4 hr.; 4 cr.
Intended for students with no previous training in Portuguese. Designed to develop basic communicative competence both orally and writing. All language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) as well as familiarity with cultural aspects of Portuguese-speaking countries will be promoted. (LANG)

PORT 112. Elementary Portuguese II. 4 hr.; 4 cr.
Prereq.: PORT 111 or equivalent. This course is a continuation of PORT 111. Designed to further develop basic communicative competence both orally and writing. All language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) as well as familiarity with cultural aspects of Portuguese-speaking countries will be promoted. (LANG)

When circumstances warrant, the department may offer an intensive Portuguese course, PORT 111 and 112, for 8 credits.

PORT 203. Intermediate Portuguese I. (formerly PORT 113) 3 hr.; 3 cr.
Prereq.: PORT 112 or equivalent. This course is a continuation of PORT 112. Designed to develop communicative competence both orally and writing at an intermediate level. All language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) as well as familiarity with cultural aspects of Portuguese-speaking countries are strenghtened.

PORT 204. Intermediate Portuguese II. 3 hr.; 3 cr.
Prereq.: PORT 203 or its equivalent. This course is a continuation of PORT 203. This course offers an intense review of Portuguese grammar and vocabulary in order to further develop communicative competence both orally and in writing at an intermediate level. All language skills (listening, speaking reading and writing) as well as familiarity with cultural aspects of Portuguese-speaking countries are strenghtened. (LANG).​
