Mission Statement
The Psychology BA program has as its mission, the development of future professionals within its field. To reach this end, the program is structured to develop students’ skills in the following areas:
- Knowledge base in psychology: Comprehension in the field’s key concepts, theoretical perspectives, historical trends, and empirical findings, in at least four core areas of psychology.
- Scientific inquiry and critical thinking: Scientific reasoning and problem-solving skills, knowledge of research methods, to understand and interpret psychological phenomena.
- Ethical and social responsibility in a diverse world: Ethically and socially responsible behaviors in professioinal and personal settings.
- Professional development: Application of psychology-specific skills in: Project-managment; teamwork; and career preparation.
These skills wil prepare undergraduate student for career placment, graduate studies, and community service. This aligns well with the Queens College motto: “Discimus ut serviamus,” “We learn so that we may serve.”
