FLUSHING, NY, October, 22, 2012—The Queens College Choral Society, James John, Music Director, will present a delightful evening celebrating the music of J.S. Bach on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 8pm in LeFrak Concert Hall.  Music will include selections from Bach’s rich repertory of chamber and orchestral works, culminating with the Kyrie and Gloria from the Mass in B Minor.

The Queens College Baroque Ensemble, led by Baroque violinist Dongmyung Ahn, will accompany the Choral Society, and also play excerpts from Bach’s famous Orchestra Suite No. 3, in D Major.  A unique aspect of the performance is that talented orchestral musicians from the Aaron Copland School of Music will play alongside outstanding professionals from the New York area to support their education and professional development. Soloists will include emerging professional talent from the Aaron Copland School of Music.

James John has served as a faculty member at the Aaron Copland School of Music for ten years, where he conducts the QC Choir, Vocal Ensemble and Choral Society. Dr. John is also Artistic Director of the Manhattan-based vocal ensemble Cerddorion, and is in demand as a guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States and abroad. Baroque violinist Dongmyung Ahn has performed with renowned ensembles such as the New York Collegium, Early Music New York, Clarion Music Society, and Joshua Rifkin’s Bach Ensemble. She is a co-founder of Guido’s Ear, an ensemble that specializes in the music of the Renaissance and early Baroque eras, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in musicology at the CUNY Graduate Center.

Founded in 1941, the Queens College Choral Society is "a singing organization of and for the public, and the students, faculty and staff of Queens College.”  Unique in its diversity of singers—from high school musicians who participate through the group’s high school outreach program, to singers who have performed with the society for over 40 years—the QCCS is one of the borough’s greatest treasures.  The Society typically performs two concerts per year with orchestra (in December and May) devoted to the great masterpieces of choral literature such as Verdi’s Requiem, Bach’s Magnificat, and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. The QCCS has also performed multiple premieres of new works, including pieces composed by Queens College Music Department faculty members.
Tickets are $15 and are available through the Kupferberg Center Box office at (718) 793-8080 or online at Group discounts for high school students and teachers are also available. To take advantage of this offer, contact Emily John at For directions to Queens College, visit
