English Language Institute (ELI)

ELI's Full-time Day Program
Provides intensive, well-rounded English instruction and practice, whether your language goals are academic or for professional/career development.
- Focus on listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, test-taking strategies, pronunciation, etc.
- Take a placement exam on the first day. This determines the best level for each student. During the fall and spring semesters, students have another opportunity to take the exam at the end of the semester.
- Fall and Spring Semesters: With the exception of holidays when the college is closed, students attend class 18 hours a week, four days a week, for approximately 15 weeks.
- Summer Sessions: With the exception of holidays when the college is closed, students attend classes 20 hours a week, four days a week. Summer ONE meets 4 weeks while Summer TWO meets 6 weeks.
- Certificate of Attendance is awarded upon successful completion.

ELI's Part-time Program
Provides targeted English instruction and practice, whether your language goals are academic or for professional/career development. Weeknight and weekend classes available.
- Focus on listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar.
- Take more than one class for a more intensive program of study.
- Take a placement evaluation on the first day. This determines the best level for each student.
- With the exception of holidays when the college is closed, weekday students attend each class four hours a week during the fall, spring and summer sessions. Saturday classes are three hours a week.
- Certificate of Attendance is awarded upon successful completion.

QC/ELI Path
Queens College offers an option for students who are academically eligible for admission to the college, but do not meet the minimum English requirement. For more information, visit PATH.
Contract Programs
The ELI offers customized courses/programs for interested partners. Past and present programs include, but are not limited to, cohort-specific ESL courses, business English, advanced career preparation, TESOL training, ESL courses in conjunction with other departments on the Queens College campus, etc. An online, instructor-led ESL course is also available.
