FAQs for Psychology Department’s
Graduation Ceremony Thursday, May 28, 2026 2pm
Highlights:
- It is our great pleasure to invite our 2026 Graduates to the Psychology Department’s Graduation Ceremony, which will be celebrated on Thursday, May 28th in person on the Quad.
- Graduate line-up will be at 1:30pm in-person on the Quad.
- The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2 pm.

*Registration is unnecessary for guests under the age of 18. Guests should have their tickets with them on Commencement Day; a screenshot will be acceptable.
*If your guests have already done this for the Main College Ceremony, they can use the same registration.
Where is the Psychology Department ceremony?
The ceremony will be held outdoors on the QC Quad. Graduating students will be given instructions closer to the event date concerning line-up location.
What time should I arrive?
Graduates need to check-in and join the line-up no later than 1:30pm. We will inform you of the location for the line-up closer to the event date.
What time should my guests arrive?
The ceremony will begin promptly at 2pm. We will have a pre-ceremony waiting area available (details to follow).
What is a “Pre-Ceremony waiting area”?
There is a several hour gap between the main QC ceremony and our departmental ceremony. We are planning to offer a seating/rest area on campus for students and families who attend the Main Ceremony in the morning and are waiting on campus for our ceremony to begin. If you and your family will be using the waiting area, you must indicate this on your RSVP.
How long is the ceremony?
Approximately 90 minutes. Please ask your guests to remain seated throughout the entire ceremony. Out of respect for your fellow graduates, please plan on remaining for the entire ceremony.
What should I wear?
Graduating students should be dressed in cap & gown. Information about how to buy one can be found here: https://collegegrad.herffjones.com/
Comfortable shoes are suggested as you will be on the Quad/grass.
Do Guests need a ticket?
Graduates are welcome to bring an unlimited number of guests to attend their Queens College ceremonial events. All guests must be registered via EventBrite, and come to campus with their tickets to be scanned to enter campus. Your guests may use the same EventBrite registration for both the Main Commencement ceremony and our Psych Dept ceremony.
What happens at the Psychology Department Ceremony?
At our ceremony, graduating students will walk across the stage and have their name called. You will receive a NAME CARD to bring on stage and hand it to the presenter who will then announce your name.
How will the announcer know how to pronounce my name?
When you fill out your NAME CARD, you will have the option to write your name out phonetically (write it as it sounds) so that it will be pronounced correctly.
Can my guests park on campus?
Campus Parking is very limited. It is first-come, first-served.
Please remind guests to leave a lot of extra time in case they need to park off campus.
Will the event be photographed?
Yes, there will be a professional photographer on stage. If you want to be contacted by the photographer to receive proofs after the ceremony for purchase, provide your contact information to the photographer when you are in the processional line-up.
The photographer will provide a card with a QR Code to scan and submit your information. The Photographer is: Island Photography
Can my guests take photographs?
Yes, guests are welcome to take photographs. However, this must be done in orderly fashion and they may not approach nor go on the stage for safety reasons.
Can I also attend the College-wide Commencement ceremony?
Yes, they are two separate events! College-wide Commencement is a separate event. The 2026 Queens College Commencement event is scheduled for Thursday, May 28th at 9am (several hours prior to the Psychology Dept event). Students must RSVP separately to the Commencement Office & need to register via Eventbrite for your guests. You can find all the information you need about the other event here:
Do I get Psychology Department Honors?
Honors in Psychology are granted automatically to any graduating Psychology BA major with an overall GPA of at least 3.50 AND Psych GPA of 3.60 or higher.
A list of our 2026 Honors awardees will soon be posted to our website here: https://www.qc.cuny.edu/academics/psychology/honors-and-awards-about/
Honors will be announced during the ceremony when each graduate crosses the stage. Honors awardees will also receive an Honors certificate from the Department. The certificate will be mailed to the mailing address listed in CUNYfirst.
Can Summer 2026 graduates participate in the graduation ceremony?
Yes! Note: While you may participate, please keep in mind that only the names of students who applied for graduation according to the deadline dates will be displayed on the program. Also, Department Honors are not calculated until after you’ve completed your summer coursework.
Does the graduation ceremony include our MA programs?
Yes! The Psychology Department graduation ceremony welcomes all our graduates.
If you are a Fall 2025, Winter 2026, Spring 2026, Summer 2026 graduate/candidate from any of these programs, we welcome you to celebrate with us:
Undergraduate BA in Psych and/or Neuroscience (Psych Minors can come too!)
MA Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis
MA Degree in Behavioral Neuroscience
MA Degree in Psychology (General Psychology program)
ABA Certificate Program
Please select your program when you RSVP, so that it will be reflected on your name card.
