Congratulations on your admission to Queens College! Your journey as a student officially begins now, and we’re excited to welcome you to our community.
Complete these steps in order, as some tasks must be finished before you can move on to the next. For example, your CUNYfirst account must be activated before you can access most college services, including your QC email, registration, financial aid information, and Brightspace.
Before your first day of class, there are several important steps you’ll need to complete to prepare for your first semester. This guide will help you activate your student accounts, meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, complete required enrollment requirements, and learn about important campus resources.
Be sure to check your QC email every day. It is the College’s official method of communication and is where you’ll receive important updates about registration, financial aid, billing, deadlines, and other information throughout your first semester.
- Activate your CUNYfirst account. Visit home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu and select “New User.” Create your password, set up your security questions, and keep your login information somewhere safe. CUNYfirst is where you’ll register for classes, view your financial aid, check your grades, and manage your student records.
- Set up CUNY Login Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Download the Microsoft Authenticator app and complete MFA setup through the CUNY Login portal. MFA protects your account and is required to access services like Brightspace, Navigate, Microsoft 365, Zoom, and campus Wi-Fi.
- Sign in to CUNYfirst. Once your account is activated, sign in to make sure everything is working correctly. Become familiar with your Student Center, where you’ll manage your account, view holds, check your enrollment appointment, and review your academic information.
- Access your QC email. Sign in to your Queens College email at outlook.office.com using your CUNYfirst username. Your QC email is the College’s official method of communication, so check it regularly for registration updates, financial aid notifications, announcements, and messages from your professors.
- Activate your AMS account. Log in to the Account Management System (AMS) using your 8-digit EMPLID. Your AMS account is required for campus Wi-Fi, computer labs, printing services, and obtaining your Q-Card.
- Get your Q-Card (Student ID). After activating AMS, upload your photo through the Q-Card eAccounts portal. Once approved, pick up your student ID at the ITS Help Desk in the I-Building, Room 200. Your Q-Card is used for identification and access to many campus services. Not sure where the I-Building is? Check the Campus Map.

Before registering for classes, you should meet with an academic advisor who will help you understand your degree requirements and select courses for your first semester.
- Schedule an advising appointment. New students should meet with an advisor before registering. Schedule your appointment through Navigate. SEEK, ACE, Worker Education, and Macaulay Honors College students should contact their program directly.
- Submit your final transcripts. Freshman should send HS, Transfer student should send their final transcript once all grades are posted for their last semester
- Meet with your advisor. Review your academic requirements, discuss your interests, and receive guidance on selecting courses that fit your degree program.
- Explore majors. If you’re undecided, that’s okay. Your advisor can help you explore majors and minors, and you can review available programs in the Queens College Undergraduate Catalog.
- Register for classes. Once your advising hold has been removed, register for courses through Schedule Builder in CUNYfirst. Review your schedule carefully before classes begin.
- Review the Academic Calendar. Check important dates, including the first day of classes, add/drop deadlines, withdrawal deadlines, holidays, and final exams on the Academic Calendar.

- Submit immunization records. Provide proof of your MMR immunization and complete the Meningitis Response Form through Health Services.
- Check for registration holds. Review the Holds section in CUNYfirst to make sure there are no outstanding requirements preventing registration.
- Apply for financial aid. Complete the FAFSA and, if eligible, the TAP application. Review your financial aid award in CUNYfirst through Financial Aid Services.
- View and pay your tuition bill. Check your account balance, payment deadlines, and available payment options through the Office of the Bursar.
