Fingerprinting for Student Teaching

Starting in the Fall of 2023, all candidates must start the fingerprinting process with the New York City Public Schools (NYC PS) as soon as they are accepted into any of the Teacher Preparation Programs. Once you begin the process it must be completed within 60 days. Candidates must have received NYC PS fingerprinting clearance before they register for student teaching, internship, or practicum.

The process of obtaining NYC PS fingerprinting clearance could take up to two months and it involves a cost that is the financial responsibility of candidates.

Students enrolled in online programs need to check with their programs about fingerprinting requirements. Candidates who are cleared for fingerprinting by New York State will be asked to get re-fingerprinted by the NYC PS at their own expense. Candidates are encouraged to consult the table below that explains the difference between NYC and NYS types of fingerprinting clearance.

Fingerprinting Procedures

All teacher candidates, including undocumented students, are required to start the fingerprinting process by submitting through their Anthology portfolio accounts a proof of starting the NYC PS fingerprinting Process:

1. Login to your Anthology Portfolio account

2. In your portfolio, click on “Fingerprinting Requirement for All Education Programs”

3. Scroll down and click the arrow to open “Instructions & Resources.” Read and follow all instructions provided.

4. Click on “Fingerprinting Proof” and complete the form. Once you have closed the form, you will be able to submit your response to the Field Placement Office.

5. After the Fingerprinting Form is submitted, candidates are advised to wait until the Field Placement Office has assessed their form and provided instructions on how to proceed with the fingerprinting process.

6. There are two possible assessment outcomes for your submission to the Fingerprinting Form. Here is a tutorial to guide students on how to review the details of the outcome of their submission.
