2022 Psychology Graduation Ceremony

It is our great pleasure to invite our 2022 Graduates to the Psychology Department’s 2022 Graduation Ceremony:

  • Date: Friday, June 3rd
  • Time: Graduate line-up will be at 9 am on the Quad.  The ceremony will begin at 10 am
  • Place: In person on the Quad.

  • Guests: Attendance will be limited; students will have the opportunity to invite a maximum of two guests.  Security bracelets/tickets are required for entry.
  • Proof of Vaccination: All attendees and their guests will need to provide proof of vaccination, per campus-wide regulations.

FAQs for Psychology Department Graduation Ceremony

Where is the Psychology Department ceremony?

The ceremony will be held outdoors on the QC QuadGraduating students will be given instructions closer to the event date concerning line-up location.

What time should I arrive?

Graduates need to arrive at 9am to check-in and join the line-up.  We will distribute name cards and photographer cards during this period. We will inform you of the location for the line-up closer to the event date.

What time should my guests arrive?

Details forthcoming.  The ceremony will begin promptly at 10am.  We advise arriving early; there may be lines at Security for campus access.

How long is the ceremony?

Approximately 90 minutes. Please ask your guests to remain seated throughout the entire ceremony. Out of respect for your fellow graduates, please plan on remaining for the entire ceremony.

What should I wear?

Graduating students should be dressed in cap & gown.  Information about how to buy one can be found here:

Do Guests need a ticket?

Yes!  The ceremony will require security bracelets/tickets for each guest.

Distribution of tickets will take place prior to the events, dates TBD by Commencement Office.  Each graduate will receive a maximum of 2 bracelets/tickets.

Security will not allow guests to enter QC campus without the security bracelet/ ticket (even infants need a ticket).

Seating is unassigned (first come, first serve).

COVID related policies (for graduates and all guests):

Please note the following COVID policies that we have been asked to share:

“Guest attendance will be limited at each event; students will have the opportunity to invite a maximum of two guests.  Each ceremony will require security bracelets/tickets to be presented.  Distribution of tickets will take place prior to the event, dates TBD by Commencement Office.  Each graduate will receive a maximum of 2 bracelets/tickets. All graduates must be in compliance with the current CUNY vaccination mandate.  Graduates without a current QCard (QC ID card) need to follow access directions posted here

The event has been designed to be as safe as possible. However, there remain risks associated with all in-person activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. All attendees and their guests will need to provide proof of vaccination. In addition, we encourage the wearing of face masks and hand washing before and after all activities. All participants and attendees, regardless of role, are subject to these rules. Individuals displaying any symptoms associated with COVID-19 will not be permitted to attend the event or enter the space for the event”

What happens at the Psychology Department Ceremony?

At our ceremony, graduating students will walk across the stage and have their name called.  You will receive a NAME CARD to bring on stage and hand it to the presenter who will then announce your name.

How will the announcer know how to pronounce my name?          

When you submit your RSVP, you will have the option to write your name out phonetically (write it as it sounds) so that it will be pronounced correctly.

Will the event be photographed?

Yes, there will be a professional photographer on stage.  If you want to be contacted by the photographer to receive proofs after the ceremony for purchase, provide your contact information to the photographer when you are in the processional line-up.

Can my guests take photographs? 

Yes, guests are welcome to take photographs.

Can my guests park on campus? 

We are asking the campus security if we will have access to any QC Parking Lots, and will keep everyone posted.

Regardless, we recommend to please remind guests to leave a lot of extra time in case they need to park off campus

Will there be any food served? 

No refreshments will be served at the Psychology ceremony.  Water fountains and restrooms are available throughout the campus.

I also want to attend the College-wide Commencement ceremony….

This is a separate event and will be held the day before the Psychology Dept ceremony.  College Commencement event is scheduled for Thursday, June 2nd.  Students must RSVP separately to the Commencement Office, and can find all the information you need about the other event here

Psychology Department Honors:

Honors in Psychology are granted automatically to any graduating Psych major with

  • an overall GPA of at least 3.50 AND
  • a Psych GPA of 3.60 or higher.

Honors will be announced during the ceremony when the graduate crosses the stage.  Honors awardees will also receive an Honors certificate from the Department. The certificate will be mailed to the mailing address listed in CUNYfirst.

I will be completing my degree requirements during the Summer 2022 semester. Can I still participate in the graduation ceremony?

Yes! Note: While you may participate, please keep in mind that only the names of students who applied for graduation according to the deadline dates will be displayed on the program.  Also, Department Honors are not calculated until after you’ve completed your summer coursework.
