LaGuardia Camino Peer Mentoring Program
Overview of Service and Mission
This program will connect the Academic Advising Center and the Elementary and Early Childhood Education department to help transfer students from LaGuardia Community College to the EECE major. The academic support will be geared specifically toward LaGuardia Community College transfer students interested in declaring Elementary and Early Childhood Education major.
Students from LaGuardia Community College will meet with a peer mentor to discuss and understand the steps to becoming a certified teacher in New York City. Our program assistant is here to guide students through course planning, major declarations, and fieldwork expectations- including needing help preparing for certification exams like CST and EAS.
Important Note on Fingerprinting Requirements
All candidates must start the fingerprinting process within the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) as soon as they are accepted into any of the Teacher Preparation Programs. All candidates must have received fingerprinting clearance before being registered for student teaching, internship, or practicum. The process of obtaining NYC DOE fingerprinting clearance could take up to two months. Candidates are encouraged to start the process of fingerprinting by contacting the Field Placement Office.
